Rotary Means Business (RMB) is an officially recognised Fellowship of Rotary International — a collaboration of business people who believe Rotarians should honour the roots of our great worldwide organisation and support one another in business.

In 1911, Paul Harris, the founder of Rotary, wrote an article entitled "Rational Rotarianism" which can be summarised as: "Life in Rotary should be a rational mixture of business, civic activities, and good fellowship." RMB was born from this very spirit.

RMB Chennai Central brings together entrepreneurs, professionals, and business leaders from diverse industries to foster meaningful connections, knowledge sharing, mentorship, and service to society — all guided by Rotary's timeless values.

We know that prosperous Rotarians donate more time and financial resources to local and international projects. RMB is designed to increase business opportunities for all Rotarians, and in so doing, expand the good work Rotary does worldwide.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN

From a single idea rooted in 1905 to a global fellowship spanning continents — the story of Rotary Means Business is one of purpose, collaboration, and growth.

The Rotary Roots — 1905

Rotary was founded in 1905 by Paul Harris, a young lawyer who created the organisation as a business club to foster fellowship and mutual support among professionals. The first Rotary Club was made up entirely of businesspeople, and the core of Rotary's early existence was rooted in professional collaboration and service to society.

The Spark — San Francisco

The Rotary Club of San Francisco #2 (California, USA) launched a business networking initiative to provide a platform for club members to network with each other and support each other's businesses. This concept spread across continents, catching fire wherever Rotarians gathered.

Official Recognition — November 2013

In November 2013, the Rotary International Board of Directors approved the application, and Rotary Means Business became an official Rotary Fellowship — giving business-minded Rotarians a formal, globally recognised platform to connect, collaborate, and grow together.

A Global Movement Today

Today, RMB serves as a platform for Rotarians worldwide to expand their businesses, develop lasting relationships, and make a positive impact. The fellowship strongly believes in promoting integrity, ethical business, and the Rotary 4-Way Test — conducting all activities in harmony with Rotary International policies.
